Books for Parents
Here are some of the top books I have found for parents. If you’re crunched for time or prefer a different format I’ve also included links for podcasts with the authors, as well as shorter videos.
Anxious Generation
A must read for understanding the social and interpersonal impacts of screens on childhood. It’s not too late to adjust your child’s access to screens. If you’ve already read this, go back and read his slightly older, slightly wider lens, especially if your child is on their way to college: The Coddling of the American Mind.

Teenage Brain
A great read to understand some of the neurological realities for teenagers. There are some helpful strategies along the way throughout this book.
The Whole Brain Child
This is one of the most read books at the moment on understanding the neuroscience of children and its impact on behavior.
Unwanted
THE BEST BOOK on understanding unwanted sexual behavior. This is a must-read for parents to understand their child’s porn use, or their own, for that matter. It is faith-based and very heavy at times.
The Body Keeps the Score
Understand trauma and how it shows up in the body. This is one of the best books to start the journey to resilience. The book has many heavy parts, but is worth the read.
Permission to Feel
A great book for growing emotional vocabulary and intelligence for you and your child. The color quadrants shared in the book offer a practical tool to understand your own feelings.
I’m Glad My Mom Died
This is a fast read and a hard story about a child star who carried the weight of her mother’s past hurt. It’s an excellent read to better understand poor family communication, eating disorders, and pressures to perform.
